Food Revolution Network is committed to educating, inspiring, and empowering on behalf of healthy, ethical, and sustainable food for all.

Food Revolution Network was founded in 2012 by Ocean Robbins and his father, bestselling author John Robbins.

Through summits, memberships, trainings, and events in collaboration with doctors, dietitians, nutritionists, coaches, and environmental experts, we work to empower individuals to take control of their health and become catalysts for change.

Our work is guided by love, truth, and the belief that food can be a powerful force for healing, for everyone.

From Ice Cream To the Food Revolution

In a way, our story begins with ice cream.

In 1945, Ocean’s grandfather, Irv Robbins, co-founded Baskin-Robbins, which became the world’s largest ice cream company. The business was built on creativity, featuring 31 flavors, one for every day of the month. Irv hoped his only son, John, would one day take over the empire.

But John had a different vision. After witnessing the toll that the standard American diet was taking on human health, including the premature death of his uncle, Burt Baskin, from heart disease at 54, John took a different path. He followed his own “rocky road.” With his wife Deo, he built a one-room cabin where they grew much of their own food, and lived simply on a remote island off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. They named their son “Ocean.” They almost named him Kale.

John went on to write Diet for a New America, a groundbreaking book published in 1987 that awakened millions to the truth about food and how it impacts our health, animals, and the environment. The book became a catalyst for a new way of thinking about what’s on our plates. It challenged entrenched systems, stirred controversy, and inspired action.

And it was just the beginning.

A New Generation Steps In

Ocean was raised in that tiny cabin, on homegrown vegetables and values of compassion, service, and love for life. In 2012, he teamed up with his dad to launch Food Revolution Network.

The idea was simple: Provide credible, evidence-based information that empowers people to make informed food choices, and then support them in taking real, lasting action.

Food Revolution Network launched the first Food Revolution Summit, which quickly became the world’s largest online health event. Millions of people have tuned in to hear leading doctors, researchers, and thought leaders illuminate the connections between food, disease, and healing.

From there, the work expanded. We created:

All of it in service to one core mission: Healthy, ethical, and sustainable food for all.

Our Hope

We live in a world where chronic disease is epidemic, healthcare systems are overwhelmed, and our food choices are undermining not just our personal well-being, but also our environment, our economy, and the future that our children and grandchildren will inherit.

We believe food is the foundation of health.

We believe everyone deserves access to nourishing food, no matter their zip code or income level.

We believe that by educating and empowering people, we can spark a ripple effect that transforms families, communities, and the world.

How We Create Change

We’re not here to shame, blame, or preach. We’re here to support transformation.

Our theory of change is based on three pillars:

Education: Delivering research-backed, expert-informed, and accessible content that shares the truth and inspires action.

Empowerment: Offering tools, training, and community that help people make sustainable changes and lead others.

Leverage: Focusing efforts where they can have the most systemic impact – at the intersection of personal health, environmental stewardship, and community wellness.

Pivotal Moments and Turning Points

In the early years, our biggest challenge was scaling impact without sacrificing integrity. We wanted to remain independent and free from corporate influence, while reaching millions. Thanks to a loyal community and our commitment to truth, we’ve been able to grow without core compromise.

One of our biggest turning points came with the launch of the Plant-Based Coaching Certificate. We saw that many people not only wanted to live healthier but also to help others. So we created a training program that brings together the science of nutrition, the art of coaching, and the heart of service. Today, our alumni are leading change in homes, hospitals, workplaces, and communities around the world.

A Time of Grief and Gratitude

On June 11, 2025, John Robbins passed from this world.

His death has left a massive hole and a deep well of gratitude. John was not only a public figure but also a loving father, a teacher, a friend, and a beacon of truth in a noisy world. His moral clarity, compassion, and courage continue to inspire our work every day.

Now the torch that he carried is in all of our hands.
